VII edition of International Documentary Film Festival Gdansk Doc Film Festival took place 22 – 25 April 2009 in Gdansk (www.gdanskdocfilm.pl).  Films selected ( out of 160 ) from all over the world were screened in the centre of Gdansk, in the legendary Neptun cinema ( 57 Dluga Street). The special screenings were shown on 26 April 2009 in Kameralne cinema.

The judges consisted of Ewa Ewart – well known documentary film producer and investigative journalist for BBC ( the chairman), Magdalena Szczawinska –

On-Air Creative Director Discovery Networks EMEA and Marcin Koszalka – cinematographer, director and scripwriter, one of the most talented and the most creative representative of  the new generation in Polish film industry. The main award of the festiwal was „The Gate of Freedom” (the statue presenting the part of the wall with gates wide open) and the cash prze.

The festival attractions included:

– special screening of  Rafal Wieczynski’s film „Popieluszko. Wolnosc jest

w nas”

– special screening of the film „Fenomen Bruno Groninga – Sladami „cudownego uzdrowiciela”

– the presentation of the film output of Ewa Ewart and Marcin Koszalka

The festival was also the opportunity to meet the authors and the main person involved in  the project „Monari” – David Monari.” Monari” is a documentary film depicting the struggle of people in Kenya with poverty and the aid provided by Monari with setting up „small businesses”. There were many volunteers taking part in the  project  who were also invited to participate in the debates and discussions. The exhibition of the photos taken by the  film crew in Kenya: Kasper Piasecki, Lukasz Augustyniak and Hania Gorniak  was also shown during the festival.
