Czytaj całośćI’m a Killer directed by Maciej Pieprzyca has been added to the programme of the 15th Gdańsk Doc Film Festival. On the grounds of public displays injunction of a documentary film I’m a Killer… from 1998 we cannot present it during the festival. At the director’s request we will show a feature film from 2016. The showing will take place in the historical BHP Hall of the Gdansk shipyard during Maciej Pieprzyca’s Retrospective which begins at 2 p.m. Having shown two documentaries and the feature film we will hold a meeting with the author with whom, among other things, we will discuss the reasons of judicial embargo on the documentary from 1998. Admission to the displays in the BHP Hall is free. Awarded with Silver Lions at the Gdynia Film Festival I’m a Killer is a thriller inspired by the true story of Zdzisław Marchwicki sentenced in the circumstantial trial in the renowned case of the “Vampire of Zagłębie”. The roles played with bravura by Arkadiusz Jakubik and Agata Kulesza were awarded with Eagles, the Awards of the Polish Film Academy.

Popiełuszki 6 will be the location of special screenings. 1st of June at 2 p.m. there will be In memoriam screenings of the films by the eminent Polish documentary maker, Irena Kamieńska, who died on 3rd April 2016. After the directors documentaries: "Workers" (1980), "Day After Day" (1988) and "Voices From Far Away" (1992) there will be a meeting with a film historian and theoretician, Prof. Mirosław Przylipiak, a university professor and an author of many publications on documentary cinema.

Czytaj całośćMaciej Pieprzyca – the Chairperson of the Jury A scriptwriter and director, born on 5th May 1964 in Katowice. He graduated from journalist studies at the Faculty of Social Science at the University of Silesia in Katowice. Graduate of Film and Television Directing at the Faculty of Radio and Television at the University of Silesia in Katowice. For his picture Splinters, he received an Award for Directing Debut at the Polish Film Festival in Gdynia. His two subsequent feature films: Life Feels Good (2013) and I'm a Killer (2016) were awarded Silver Lions at the same festival. His films have received many awards, not only at Polish but also at international film festivals in Houston, New York, Chicago, Montreal or Moscow, etc. He made the She is Different, By Knockout, A Legend Will Remain, I Am a Murderer documentaries which have been appreciated at multiple documentary festivals. Apart from that, he is the author of the following TV theatre productions: Hairdresser, Down, Family Show and Who Do You Believe.

Czytaj całośćHe graduated from the Faculty of Economics and Sociology at the University of Łódź in 1980. From 1979 to 1981 studied philosophy at the same university. In 1984, he obtained a degree in Directing at the Department of Radio and Television at University of Silesia in Katowice. During his studies Woldan submitted four student etudes – Krzysztof Kieślowski was his artistic supervisor. Woldan is the author of over 60 documentaries. He made five films for the Educational Films Studio and one for the Karol Irzykowski Film Studio. Since 1989 he has been working for Polish Television (Telewizja Polska) and directed over 50 documentaries for them, such as films about famous Polish writers: Adam Mickiewicz, Jerzy Andrzejewski, Stanisław Dygat, Adam Zagajewski, Jan Józef Szczepański, Kornel Filipowicz, Tadeusz Nowakowski, Marek Nowakowski, Włodzimierz Odojewski, Jerzy Ficowski, and Bolesław Prus. He has also made films about priests (Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński, Cardinal August Hlond, Father Jerzy Popiełuszko, Father Ludwik Wiśniewski, Father Jan Góra, and Father Janusz Pasierb). Among His other protagonists are: Karolina Lanckorońska, Professor Stanisław Swianiewicz, Professor Stefan Swieżawski, and Marek Skwarnicki. He authored seven television dramas (Mystery Play of Saint Adalbert, Betrayal, Alek, Góra Góry, Primate in Komańcza, Thief in a Habit, Faithfulness). Woldan has received numerous prestigious film awards, such as JANTAR 85 at Koszalin Film Meetings; "Bronze Dancer" at the International Short Film Festival in Huesca, Spain; Grand Prix during the International Catholic Film Festival in Niepokalanów, Poland; and a Special Prize at the International Short Film Festival in Cracow.

The producer of a cycle of documentaries on children from the Golzow village directed by Barbara and Winfried Junge. So far, since 1961, 18 films were made. It is the oldest cycle in the world history of documentary. He often cooperates with Andreasem Voigtem, the director. He was the producer of his TV feature film, Meeting Krzysztof Kieślowski (1995). He produced "Po-lin" (2008), a famous documentary by Jolanta Dylweska. He also completes commission productions, mainly for Saxonia Media PLC Leipzig.

Sandecka is an editor of a monthly magazine "Kino" ("Cinema") and the "Film Pro" quarterly. She works for the TVP Kultura TV station ("Tygodnik Kulturalny" – "Culture Weekly"), Channel 2 of Polish Radio, and since 2012 she curates theatrical programme in a Lublin theatre Teatr Stary. Sandecka is also an expert for Polish Film Institute, juror for screenwriting contests and psychotherapist.
